Respecting the Masai Mara Animals and Plants

Keep to the roads or well defined tracks and do not drive over vegetation. Off road driving is an offence severely penalised.

Keep a distance of 20 metres from animals. Wait for your turn. Do not stay more than 10 minutes or follow the animals when they move away.

Do not sound your horn, bang on your car or startle the wildlife in any way.

Do not feed the animals or take part in activities which could injure or alarm them.

Give animals the right of way and respect the reserve speed limit: 50 kph.

Cheetah Alert: Cheetahs only hunt during the day. They are very sensitive to noise and interference from vehicles.

Do not collect or remove any animal products, rocks, plants, seeds, or nests. Live animals, insects, birds and reptiles must never be touched nor removed from the reserve. Firewood collection is also prohibited.

Reserve Etiquette and Safety

Do not stand on the roof or hang out of the windows. Stay in your vehicle and do not get out during the game drive.

Keep all litter in the car until you can dispose of it properly.

Do not throw away any burning objects: a lit cigarette or match may lead to the death and suffering of many animals.

Radios and CD players are forbidden.

Domestic animals are not allowed in the reserve.
